Jacob is a designer and self-described transportation geek. Jacob spent the first ten years of his career working as an in-house web designer and design manager at Illinois State University, where he collaborated with a cross-disciplinary team to redesign hundreds of websites–from grant-funded research projects to the flagship university homepage.

There he developed ChalkTalk, a participatory design framework for designing sustainable transportation infrastructure. Upon graduating Jacob worked as a transportation planner and designer at Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates in Boston, MA, working with clients across the United States, ranging from small municipal governments to large philanthropic organizations. While in New England he won a 10-month public art residency through the city of Salem with his creative partner, Lauren Smedley, helping local businesses navigate the COVID-19 pandemic through creative queuing, placemaking, and wayfinding.
